Use Canva's AI to Create Your Monthly Library Social Media Calendar

What This Does

Canva's Magic Write AI generates social media captions, event copy, and promotional text directly inside your design workspace — so you can write and design in one place instead of bouncing between tools.

Before You Start

  • You have a free Canva account (canva.com)
  • You know your library's upcoming events for the month
  • You're logged in to Canva

Steps

1. Find the Magic Write feature

Go to canva.com and click + Create a design. Choose Instagram Post (or any social format). In the left sidebar, click the Apps icon, then search for Magic Write. Alternatively, double-click any text box and look for the sparkle ✨ icon that appears in the text toolbar.

2. Tell it what you need

Click the Magic Write sparkle icon. A text prompt box appears. Type your request in plain English — be specific about events, dates, and tone.

3. Review and use the result

Magic Write inserts copy directly into your design. Edit as needed, then duplicate the design for each event and swap in the new copy.

Real Example

Scenario: You have 4 events in March — story time starting the 8th, a tax help drop-in on the 15th, a book club meeting on the 22nd, and spring break kids' crafts March 25–29.

What you type: "Write social media captions for 4 library events in March: (1) Weekly story time for ages 2-5 starts March 8, Saturdays at 10am. (2) Free tax help with AARP volunteers, March 15, 1-3pm, no appointment needed. (3) Adult Book Club discussing 'Demon Copperhead' on March 22 at 6pm. (4) Spring Break craft workshops for kids March 25-29, drop-in. All events are free."

What you get: Four distinct captions, each with an appropriate call to action, ready to copy into Facebook, Instagram, or your website.

Tips

  • Ask for "short version for Twitter" and "longer version for Facebook" separately — the same event needs different lengths
  • Add your library's hashtag at the end: ask Magic Write to "add #[YourLibraryName] to each post"
  • If you have Canva Pro, use the Content Planner to schedule posts directly from Canva to Facebook and Instagram

Tool interfaces change — if a button has moved, look for similar AI/magic/smart options in the same menu area.
